This trek will travel through the remote west of Nepal. We will visit three National Parks: Royal Bardia in the lowlands, Khaptad and Rara Lake at higher elevations. These are non-tourist areas. There are no guesthouses or tourist facilities once we leave Bardia. In fact the area from Khaptad to Rara and Simikot has rarely been trekked by foreigners. We will explore these regions and see traditional villages and rare wildlife.
First we will go to Royal Bardia National Park. It is a long bus ride or short flight to Nepalganj and Bardia. However, it is well worth it. The wildlife is abundant, including exotic birds, monkeys, deer, wild boar, leopards, crocodiles, gigantic dolphins, and wild elephants. In May the temperature will be very hot, but that just drives the wildlife to the rivers (where it’s easy for us to see them).
"The Royal Bardia National Park is the largest untouched wilderness in the Terai…You stand a better chance of seeing a Tiger here than anywhere else in Nepal." - Lonely Planet.
From Bardia we will take a long bus ride to near Khaptad National Park. There is little known about this park. It is on a plateau with grasslands and coniferous trees. The views of Saipal and Api Himals to the North are excellent. We will also find lots of different wildlife. There is a famous religious site here. It will be a great place to explore.
It will take a few days to cross Khaptad. Once we come to the Karnali River, we will continue east to Rara National Park. This is an area of incredible beauty. The RARA is the largest lake in Nepal, is brilliantly clear and blue, variety of fish, the snow trout as well as Siberian birds too. The park contains many blue pines, and the effect at sunset is extraordinary. Wildflowers bloom in spring and summer, carpeting the open meadows. Here we will climb a small peak and walk around the lake.
The vegetation here is unique and it sometimes looks like you are on a tropical island. As interesting as this area is, most fascinating are the villages. The people here are known as the Nyinba. They are ethnic Tibetans who have lived in this border region for hundreds of years. Most unique is their system of polyandry, the practice of having more than one husband. The brothers from one family will all marry the same woman. Culturally, they are totally different from anything we will see before there.
This is a great opportunity to see the miserable life style of people which is assumed to be of post centuries. Again, we can say that, this part of Nepal is highly influence by the Maoist revolution. We will see a variety of terrain, cultures and wildlife. These regions have been seen by few foreigners ever. No one else offers a trek some thing like this mix up. If you want to get way “off the beaten path” and see truly original people, places, and things, join us in this adventure. The minimum group size required 4 people because of its inaccessibility.
The center theme of this trek is Lumbini and Bardai national park and Rara Lake. The first one provides you the full opportunities to observe monasteries, temple and all the Buddhist monuments whereas the second one opens its natural vegetation and different wildlife to you. Meanwhile the third ones come with its utmost effort to fascinate you by its natural beauty and glimpses of many mountain ranges.
