Trip Overview

Makalu lies to the east of Kathmandu, which takes you through some of the most captivating landscapes in the country. You will be walking through the rhododendron forests and Sherpa villages with the opportunity to watch their traditions and cultures from up close. The Sherpa people of this region are different from the Sherpa in the Everest region. During the trail you can also see four different peaks that are over 8,000m such as Mt. Everest the world's highest (8,848m), Kanchanjunga 2nd highest (8,598m.), Lhotse 3rd highest (8,501m.), and Makalu 4th highest (8,463m). The trek to this area starts either from Hile or from Tumlingtar.

Day: 01. Kathmandu to Tumlingtar: By flight to Tumlingtar and rest for the day preparing for the trek

Day: 02. Tumlingtar to Mani Bhangyang: Trek about 6 to 7 hours.

Day: 03. Mani Bhangyang to Chichila: Trek about 5 hours.

Day: 04. Chichila to Num: Trek about 6 to 7 hours.

Day: 05. Num to Sedua: Trek about 5 hours.

Day: 06. Sedua to Tashi Gaon: Trek about 5 hours.

Day: 07. Tashi Gaon to Kauma: Trek about 6 hours.

Day: 08. Kauma to Tematan Kharka: Trek about 6 hours to cross two different passes and visit lake on the way.

Day: 09. Tematan Kharka to Nehe Kharka: Trek about 5 hour.

Day: 10. Nehe Kharka to Ramara: Trek about 5 to 6 hours.

Day: 11. Ramara to Makalu Base Camp: Trek about 7 hour.

Day: 12. Rest at Makalu Base Camp: Explore the area.

Day: 13. Makalu Base Camp to Nehe Kharka: Same route back.

Day: 14. Nehe Kharka to Mumbuk: Same route back

Day: 15. Mumbuk to Kauma: Same route back.

Day: 16. Kauma to Tashi Gaon: Same route back.

Day: 17. Tashi Gaon to Num: Same route back.

Day: 18. Num to Bhotebas: Same route back.

Day: 19. Bhotebas to Tumlingtar: Same route back.

Day: 20. Tumlingtar to Kathmandu

Either you can fly from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu or enjoy 4 more days trek all the way down to Hile and then drive to Kathmandu
